Mini-Review of You Love You by Semi Precious Weapons

{Originally published in The C. W. Post Pioneer's Loomings, the premise of the article was "We here at Loomings occasionally receive complaints (who doesn’t), and when we do, they tend to point out two things: 1) Our enjoyment of things that are “too pretentious” or 2) our enjoyment of things that are “too old”. So this week the challenge was thrown out to the staff to talk about albums from last year that have really caught their attention. Here’s to relevancy!" My contribution was a small write-up of Semi Precious Weapons' debut album}

You Love You by Semi Precious Weapons

A lot of people will tell you rock is dead. That the gritty, nasty, sexy underworld of rock and roll, the dirt and glitter, they’ve all faded away in a world of rap, indie, and just plain awful pop. Try telling that to the glam rock quartet “…from New York Mother-f***ing city”, Semi Precious Weapons. Most of you may know them as Lady Gaga’s opening act, but hopefully at least some of you know them from their insane headliner shows in lower Manhattan. These shows feature sexual innuendos, indecent exposure, copious amounts of alcohol, and at points acts of copulation in the audience, all encouraged by the pounding rock beats of Justin Tranter & crew. Their debut album, You Love You, captures all that life and excitement, packaging it into live-wire tracks like “Sticky With Champaign” and “Magnetic Baby”. The record is, in this writers opinion, the best real rock debut album since Kings of Leon’s Youth and Young Manhood, and restores my faith in the genre I love. With Semi Precious Weapons blasting from iPods and radios across the country, it seems the boys are right when the sing the title of their song “Rock And Roll Never Looked So Beautiful”.
